Sporting the new trend?

Vogue portray the trend of sport inspired fashion perfectly with the above photograph. The trend of sport fashion has been up and coming for a couple of years, but now it is in full swing showing its face all across the high street and in top designer shows, from Rihanna who has just released her fashion line to Jimmy Choo.

After an incredibly successful and exciting London Olympics in 2012, it seemed to inspire fashion and designers. With athletes now modelling for fashion organisations, and sporting heroes like David Beckham creating new ads for the clothing store H&M, it is clear sport is more apparent in our lives.

Not only has the colder weather this winter got us wrapping up, but it has given people the chance to sport the latest trend of the beanie. Once known for its links to snow sports, skating and American football it is now the hat of choice. The trend started with “boyfriend” style clothing, as girls sported baggy tees and vintage sport jumpers, to now having a section in Topshop entitled “Sno”. Topshop isn’t the only retailer either, Asos have a sport section and high street stores like Miss Selfridge, have incorporated the look into their stores too. Celebs like Rita Ora, Cara Delevingne and Rihanna are all wearing the look. In particular Rihanna’s involvement in the new brand “BOY”, appears to have sent this style even further into the fashion market.

Leggings once used for running and sport have turned into a fashion garment, wearing them high-waisted and by using jazzy colours, patterns and materials they turn into a trend. High top trainers, well known in the sporting industry, are now an exchange for heels on a night out or ballet pumps during the day. Then Lycra crop tops and sporting bralets, which are now becoming something worn on a night out.

Sport fashion is becoming a trend spotted everywhere, and top fashion magazine Glamour has picked up on this too. The magazine has created a page titled “Sports Luxe” and has produced a gallery of the latest sport inspired fashion garments and accessories, from Topshop and River Island’s scuba dresses to Alexandra Kapsala’s navy perforated jacket. The gallery is available to view online and it appears to be continually updated. Although some designs are somewhat outlandish others have become normality. The page links to shopping sites and another few to keep your eye on for sport fashion are Bank, American apparel, Topshop, JD Sports and Asos.

So will you be joining in on the look? Or have you already? Let me know, and if you like post some pictures in the comments box for us all to see.

  1. Its such as you read my mind! You appear to understand a lot about this, such as you wrote the e-book in it or something. I believe that you can do with a few % to power the message house a little bit, however instead of that, that is magnificent blog. A great read. I’ll certainly be back.
